10 Things You Didn’t Know About The Holiday Show
Every December, the Indianapolis Men’s Chorus (IMC) kicks off the season with one of Indy’s most joyful and anticipated traditions, The Holiday Show. With heart, humor, and dazzling harmonies, the IMC brings together music, community, and celebration in a production that truly embodies the spirit of the season. Whether you’ve been in the audience for years or you’re discovering us for the first time, here are 10 things you might not know about this iconic Indianapolis holiday concert.
1. The name is new, but the tradition runs deep.
While The Holiday Show title debuted in 2023, the IMC has performed a holiday concert every year since its founding in 1990. What began as a small, heartfelt performance has grown into one of Indiana’s most beloved holiday events, with audiences now topping 2,000 attendees annually and growing every season.
2. Every year is a brand-new show with new surprises.
Each season brings a completely fresh production, new music, choreography, costumes, and creative twists. You’ll never see the same Holiday Show twice! Expect heartwarming classics, pop hits, unexpected humor, and moments that move you to tears (and laughter).
3. Nearly 200 people help bring the magic to life.
From nearly 100 volunteer singers to a team of musicians, designers, technicians, and crew, The Holiday Show is a massive community effort. Add in creative leadership, stage managers, volunteers, and ushers, and you have nearly 200 people working together to make the magic happen.
4. The Singers are volunteers
Every singer in the IMC donates their time, and often helps raise funds, to make these performances possible. Their commitment, passion, and artistry are the heartbeat of the chorus and the reason The Holiday Show shines year after year.
5. It’s about more than music — it’s about belonging.
The IMC’s mission is to entertain, educate, and promote inclusive community through musical excellence. At The Holiday Show, that means everyone is welcome. Each performance celebrates acceptance, visibility, and the power of music to bring people together.
6. Planning begins more than a year in advance.
Even before the curtain rises, the next Holiday Show is already in the works. Music selection, creative concepts, design elements, and partnerships are all carefully planned more than a year ahead to ensure every detail sings.
7. The IMC gives back to the community in more ways than one.
In addition to outreach programs like The Echo Project, IMC provides free tickets to staff members of local LGBTQ+-serving organizations, making sure those who give so much to our community also get to experience the joy they help create.
8. Donors and community partners make it all possible.
The Holiday Show is brought to life with the generous support of individual donors, sponsors, and community partners who believe in the IMC’s mission. Their investment ensures that this tradition remains vibrant, accessible, and inclusive for audiences across Indiana.
9. It’s one of Indiana’s most beloved live music events.
Over 2,000 people attended The Holiday Show in 2024, a record-setting audience for the IMC. With each season, more Hoosiers discover why this volunteer-driven, heart-filled concert has become a defining part of Indianapolis’s live holiday music scene.
10. Make The Holiday Show part of your season of joy.
There’s no better way to celebrate the holidays than by sharing in the magic of live music. The Holiday Show brings together laughter, reflection, and community — reminding us that the real spirit of the season is about belonging. Gather your friends and family, and make this unforgettable night part of your own holiday tradition.
