Your First Rehearsal

When does IMC begin rehearsing at Butler?
Our first regular rehearsal at Butler University is Wednesday, September 2.
IMC rehearsals and most other regular activities will take place in Lilly Hall.

Where do I go?

For our first rehearsal, we will be in Lilly Hall, Room 120.

What time can I arrive?

You are welcome to arrive on campus early, although our rehearsal room may not be available until approximately 30 minutes before rehearsal.
Always check Next Up in the Singer Portal for your current call time, rehearsal time, and room assignment.

Parking

Where should singers park?

We are finalizing our singer parking arrangements with Butler Parking Services. IMC expects to provide singers with parking hangtags/permits for use during rehearsals. Complete parking instructions will be posted here before our first regular rehearsal. Please check this page again before September 2 rather than relying on information you may have received previously.

Where should visitors park?

Visitors to the IMC office who do not have a Butler parking permit can generally use available street parking or the Butler parking garage. If you are inviting a donor, guest, vendor, auditionee, or other visitor to campus, please contact IMC if they need specific parking instructions.

Building Access

How do I get into Lilly Hall?

Butler provides IMC with a monthly Door Code for building access. The current Door Code always appears near the top of your Singer Portal Home page. Because the code changes periodically, always check the Portal rather than saving an old code.

Please do not share the Door Code outside of IMC.

What if the Door Code doesn’t work?

If you have trouble entering Lilly Hall when arriving for an IMC rehearsal or event, contact one of the IMC Company Managers. Please do not prop open exterior doors or allow people you do not recognize to enter using IMC’s Door Code.

What about after-hours access?

IMC regularly uses Lilly Hall during evenings and weekends. Use the designated IMC entrance and current Door Code when arriving outside normal university hours.

Rehearsal Rooms & IMC Office

What rooms does IMC use?

IMC primarily uses Lilly Hall Rooms 112, 120, and 124 for rehearsals and other activities. Our room may change depending on Butler’s academic and performance schedule. Always check Next Up in the Singer Portal for the room assigned to your specific rehearsal or event.

How will I know if our room changes?

The room listed for your event in the Singer Portal is your best source for current information. IMC will also communicate significant or last-minute changes directly to singers when necessary.

Can we move chairs and other equipment?

Yes. Chairs, desks, music stands, and other equipment may be moved as needed for rehearsal. At the end of rehearsal, please help return the room to its standard classroom configuration, including returning chairs and desks to face the front of the classroom.

Where are the restrooms?

All-gender restrooms are located in the rehearsal-room hallway in Lilly Hall.

Is Lilly Hall accessible?

Yes. Lilly Hall is accessible. A ramp provides access to the first floor, and an elevator is located on the southeast side of the building for access between floors. If you need additional accessibility accommodations for an IMC rehearsal or event, please contact us so we can help make arrangements.

Where is the IMC office?

The Indianapolis Men’s Chorus office is located in: Lilly Hall, Room 036

The office is in the basement of Lilly Hall. Follow the wayfinding signage to find the IMC office.

Can singers visit the IMC office?

Absolutely! Singers are always welcome to stop by the IMC office. The space may occasionally be used for small rehearsals, auditions, fittings, meetings, or other IMC activities, so it may not be accessible at all times. The office will typically be open before rehearsal, so feel free to stop by and say hello.

Wi-Fi & Technology

Is Wi-Fi available?

Yes. Singers should use the Butler Guest Wi-Fi network while on campus.

Can singers use the technology in the rehearsal rooms?

Lilly Hall classrooms contain technology that may be used as part of IMC rehearsals. Unless otherwise directed, please allow IMC staff to operate Butler classroom technology, cameras, displays, and other equipment. If you experience a technology or Wi-Fi problem that affects an IMC activity, let a staff member or Company Manager know.

Safety, Weather & Campus Closures

How can I receive emergency alerts from Butler?

Singers are encouraged to sign up for Butler Dawg Alerts. Dawg Alerts provide timely information about campus emergencies, severe weather, fire alarms, and other situations affecting the Butler community. You do not need a Butler account to register.

What happens if there is severe weather or Butler closes?

Butler communicates weather and emergency information through Dawg Alerts, campus announcements, and local media. IMC will communicate directly with singers if a rehearsal or event is canceled, delayed, relocated, or otherwise changed. Always follow IMC communication regarding the status of an IMC rehearsal or event.

Is Lilly Hall accessible during Butler breaks?

Lilly Hall is generally closed during official Butler University breaks. IMC staff will coordinate access for any IMC activities scheduled during those periods and will provide singers with specific instructions when necessary.

What about construction or other campus disruptions?

Butler is an active university campus, and construction, events, road closures, and parking changes may occasionally affect access.

IMC will share significant changes with singers when we become aware of them. Give yourself a little extra time when coming to campus if there is a major university event or construction activity nearby.

Butler’s main all-you-care-to-eat dining hall and a good option if you want an actual dinner before rehearsal.

A-Town Market — Atherton Union

Part market, part made-to-order restaurant, with meals, snacks, groceries, and drinks. Its evening hours can make it particularly convenient around rehearsal.

Midtown Provisions — Residential College

Customizable bowls, sandwiches, pizza, pasta, snacks, and grab-and-go options.

Coffee & Quick Stops

Starbucks — Atherton Union

Located next to the Butler Bookstore and an easy place to meet another singer or grab something before rehearsal.

The Butler Brew — Lacy School of Business

Butler’s student-led coffee shop featuring local coffee, pastries, smoothies, and light food. Primarily a daytime option.

After Rehearsal

Chatham Tap Butler

A full-service pub and restaurant right on Butler’s campus. Its later hours make it a particularly good option for a post-rehearsal gathering.

Take a Break

Holcomb Gardens

One of the prettiest places on campus and open to the public. The gardens sit alongside the Central Canal and are a great place for a walk before rehearsal.

Atherton Union

The center of campus life and home to dining, Starbucks, the Butler Bookstore, lounges, and other campus services.

Just Off Campus

Hoagies and Hops — Butler-Tarkington

Close to campus and a casual option for cheesesteaks, hoagies, and other food.

About IMC at Butler

Why did IMC move to Butler?

IMC’s growth has created the need for an organizational home that can better support our singers, staff, and artistic work. At Butler, IMC has administrative offices and regular rehearsal space in Lilly Hall while becoming part of the Butler Arts Collaborative, connecting us with a larger community of artists, educators, students, and arts organizations.

It’s an exciting next step in IMC’s growth and gives us a strong foundation for what comes next.

What is the Butler Arts Collaborative?

The Butler Arts Collaborative brings local arts organizations into the Butler University community, creating opportunities to share space, build relationships, and connect with Butler students and faculty.

By joining the Collaborative, IMC becomes part of a larger community of Indianapolis arts organizations based at Butler, opening the door to new connections, shared ideas, and future collaborations.

Does this mean IMC performances will now be at Butler?

No. Butler is our organizational home, not our exclusive performance venue.

IMC will continue performing at venues throughout Indianapolis and working with community partners across Central Indiana.
